How you can prepare

How you can prepare

In your first and second year

If you are currently in your first or second year, it is important to start thinking now about how you can fill your CV.

There are many ways to get involved in extra curricular activities. Getting involved in societies and events, volunteering and fundraising are all good, as are more formal schemes, such as peer mentoring and getting involved in projects within the dental school.

You could consider an intercalated year. This could help your application.

In your Third and Fourth year

Continue to get involved in some interesting extra curricular activities.

Enjoy your electives and outreach, but try and record and events which you might use as examples in a question. These could include difficult, complicated or interesting patients, positive or difficult teamwork scenarios, problems or successes with communication etc.

Final year

Check the COPDEND website to find out when to apply to each Deanery.

Attend all the talks, seminars and workshops available. (You will be emailed with details of the support available to you)

Many of the questions on the application form and also the way they judge some CVs is based on the Person Specification. (You can find a copy of last years person spec here.) Look at the competencies/skills they are looking for and think about how you can explain that you have them.
